Octagon of Doom? Hold the Hype
One of those little things that makes me go "Awrrrrr".
Seems to me it may be a bit premature to force feed us with this Octagon of Doom moniker some are trying to put on Kansas State's Bramlage Coliseum.
Kansas State has lost its last two games at the OOD. Prior to that the Wildcats had won 14 straight at the OOD.
Ten in a row this season and the final four home games of the previous season.
Including games against South Dakota, Cleveland State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Fort Hays State, Western Illinois, Illinois Central and North Carolina Central.

Big 12 Bowl Lineup Stinks
First off, here is the new bowl lineup for the immediate future - starting next season - for the Big 12 Conference. Just so you know what I'm going to rip.
Fiesta Bowl
Cotton Bowl
Alamo Bowl
Insight Bowl
Holiday Bowl
Texas Bowl
Yankee Bowl
Dallas Football Classic
Eagle Bank Bowl (in 2013)
First thing you notice is that four of those bowls are in the state of Texas -- Cotton, Alamo, Dallas Football Classic and, duh!, the Texas Bowl.
Next thing you notice is that the Fiesta, the Insight and the Holiday are out West.

Regardless of decision, KSU QBs will keep competing
While we wait until Tuesday for Bill Snyder to fill us in on who he picked as his starting quarterback at his weekly news conference, it's worth pointing out that Carson Coffman and Grant Gregory will continue to compete regardless of who starts against Massachusetts.
Just because Kansas State's coach has picked a starter for Saturday’s game against UMass doesn’t mean he’s picked his starter for the entire season.

Message to Kansas State fans
Editor’s note: Kellis Robinett began covering Kansas State sports for The Wichita Eagle and The Kansas City Star last Saturday.
By Kellis Robinett
Getting started on a newspaper sports beat usually means meeting many new people and getting immersed in an athletics program in a short amount of time.
This week, my first as Kansas State beat writer, has been no different. I’ve met with a lot of K-State athletic officials and coaches as I get ready for the fall sports seasons.

About coverage of Kansas State
By Tom Shine
Deputy Editor/News
The Wichita Eagle
There has been a lot of unhappiness from some Kansas State fans over our hiring of Kellis Robinett to cover the K-State athletics program. Most of the 30 or so emails I have received indicate that fans aren’t upset that Kellis is a graduate of the University of Kansas. That makes sense.
KU has one of the nation’s best journalism schools. Its graduates — just like those from K-State’s journalism program — work at papers all over the country, including The Eagle and The Kansas City Star.

K-State Fan Appreciation Day Recap
I’m not going to pretend that I know everything there is to know about Kansas State’s football team after watching Saturday’s laid back Fan Appreciation Day practice. We talkin’ bout practice, after all.
But I did walk away with a few observations.
So let’s just jump into them. In no particular order …
