MU angling for KC game against major hoops opponent

By Mike DeArmond - Posted on 03 August 2010

Missouri is in the process of negotiating with a high-profile opponent for a non-conference basketball game to be played at the Sprint Center the week following Thanksgiving.

Dave Reiter, a spokesman for the MU basketball team, would not name the possible opponent, but acknowledged: “If they can find the right fit, it is something Missouri is very interested in doing. We’re looking for a premium game in Kansas City.”

The last week of November is already going to deliver a major Missouri athletic presence in Kansas City. The Tigers play Kansas in the football Border War game on Nov. 27 at Arrowhead Stadium, an 11:30 a.m. kickoff that will be televised by Fox Sports Net.

So, KU and MU end the Big 12 basketball season in Columbia (how many times is this now?).

So that means The Paige won't sell out until March 5 of 2011?

How's the FBI's investigation going over at kU, "Uncle23"? Got everything wrapped up yet? Or are the Feds still nosing around?

Lack of Institutional Control, anyone?

"Compliance doesn't sell tickets."

I don't know if it is 100% accurate or not, but I saw someone on another board with knowledge mention Georgetown as the possible opponent. That was a few weeks ago, but I don't think that was any big secret at the time. Now that may have changed, but I believe that is who they were discussing it with at that time.

Georgetown is who - as you say - had been circulating a couple of weeks ago. It may turn out to be the Hoyas. It may not.

Sprint Center is a very good venue for basketball. So is there any word of who the opponent could possibly be?

The way this reads it seems as though they're already negotiating with the school now.

You would think location is a reason, and I can't think of any schools located in this area out of Conference.

I'd hope to see us play a Big 10 school here.
