Fox Sports ranks K-State No. 5, Mizzou No. 9 and KU No. 11 in preseason hoops poll

All three local Big 12 schools are high on a preseason college basketball poll released by Fox Sports’ Jeff Goodman — Kansas State is No. 5, Missouri No. 9 and Kansas No. 11.

While K-State's Elite Eight run carried over into a top-five ranking, the national media is really impressed with MU coach Mike Anderson’s latest recruiting class. On the heels of Rivals.com ranking the class No. 6, Goodman slotted the Tigers into a top-10 ranking after they were unranked most of last season.

“Obviously, Mike’s system has proven to work,” Goodman said in a release issued Tuesday by Missouri. “You look at what was lost a season ago (three 1,000-point scorers) and then they come out and win 23 games this year. To a lot of people, the loss of (Zaire) Taylor and (J.T.) Tiller will be the biggest questions mark, but I love the young players at Missouri.

“I love Marcus Denmon and think he will play an even bigger role this season. Kim English has proven himself and the recruiting class just adds to the program.

“Phil Pressey, to me, is the ideal point guard for Mike Anderson’s system. If you picked one point guard in the country to play for Missouri, it would be Phil Pressey. He’s so fast and so unselfish. And then you add guys like Tony Mitchell and Ricardo Ratliffe, the top junior college player, and I think this is the team that has the talent and depth to have a special season.”

Here is Goodman’s Top 25:

I know the rest of the conference should be be trembling with fear about the great recruiting class MU is bringing in next year. But I've seen this movie before. A few years ago, Kstate had what was being heralded as the "greatest recruiting class of all time" when they had Beasley and crew. Get back to me when someone other than KU wins the conference.

for the tigers fans reading this, or even ksu and ku fans, here is a roundup up of what the "experts" have to say

That really is surprising to me. The way I hear it from my brother-in-law and most other Jaysqauk fans it would seem like they've had about 20 in that amount of time. Take away the title that Memphis choked away in EPIC fashion in 2008 and it would only be 2 titles in 60 years. Yes, I'm aware MU hasn't ever been there.

It should be another fun year in the Big XII next year. I've seem a lot of these pre-season polls and they seem to all have these three teams in different order. Luke Winn has KSU and KU 4 and 5 in his. I do like to see the North taking over in basketball since the South owns football.

one of those teams better start beating KU semi-regular before i'm buying this. KU will win the Big XII and finish in the top 10. just like always.

"KU will win the Big XII and finish in the top 10. just like always."

and then lose in the first or second round of the tournament. just like always.

Is in the top 5 as far as NCAA tournament winning percentages. When you are almost always a top 4 seed, pretty much every loss is an "upset". Missouri and K-State don't have to deal with that because they are rarely seeded that high.

yeah, I know KU flopped last season, but name the most recent out of KU/MU/K-State to win a national title? Oh, it was KU, all of 2 years ago. Name the one before that? Oh, it was KU in '88. Name the one before that? Oh, it was KU in '52.

One can count the number of times Mizzou has made the final four on zero fingers, and you can count K-State's NCAA tourney championships on zero fingers as well...

Why is it so easy to get the beakers to act so defensive?

Yep you just have to say something really stupid.

Something stupid, or something true? You act like spoiled children when the truth is presented to you. How's that FBI investigation going?

The truth is KU wins a whole lot more than any other team in the big 12. how's not winning going?

love it

Until you have something to hang from the rafters in your area other than a faded Big 8 Championship banner or that lonely Big 12 Tournament Banner your credibility in basketball is hollow. Get back to us when you win something.
