Bill Snyder: The Family Plan
If there was one thing that struck me during Bill Snyder's reintroduction at Big 12 Media Days it was this.
His admission that he and his family missed out on some things during his epic first turnaround of Kansas State football.
Of son Sean, an assistant to his dad at KSU now, Bill said:
"I've got a son here who's got three of our grandchildren, and I'm going to make sure he has ample opportunity to spend time with his family.
"I missed out on mine to a certain degree. I want to make sure that I still have time to spend with our eight grandchildren and five childen, and I want to make sure our coaches do (with their families) as well."
One thing we all learn - coaches, sportswriters, bankers, folks working beyond 9 to 5 at any job - is that ultimately nothing counts like family.
You don't snuggle up to a football trophy or a basketball banner or a well-received feature story.
The important things flow from family, not jobs.

You're right Mike. And Snyder's right too.
And it tells me that he doesn't have the stomach any more to do the kinds of things necessary to unseat OK & TX.
Pelini does. Mangino talks about it openly. Not saying either of them can or will, but they have the fire.
At a certain age you begin to think that wisdom will win out over damn hard work. In life, it will. In college football, no chance. For taking care of the important things, KSU won't be able to overcome the budgets, athletes, and programs at the top of the Big 12.
Puncher's chance, periodic victories? Sure. Create what he had in the 90s? Not without the kind of work he demanded and put in back then. That HASN'T changed.
