Reesing for Heisman? You won't hear it from KU ... yet

Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing, still buried on the Big 12 quarterback popularity depth chart behind Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy and Zac Robinson, could probably use some marketing help if he's going to make a run at a Heisman Trophy during his senior season.

He won't get that from the KU program, though, at least early on.

"If we thought a campaign would be appropriate at some time, we would," KU coach Mark Mangino said. "But we don't think now's the time. You've got to go out and play well and have a great start to your season and prove that you belong in that group."

Um, Coach, hasn't Reesing already proven it? He's completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 7,578 yards and 68 touchdowns, and his presence has galvanized your entire program. Of course, Mangino wants all of his players to feel like they have to earn their accolades, but does Reesing really need to put up 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns in the first four games against nonconference opponents to warrant some institutional backing for awards?

I've always thought that Reesing should have gotten more consideration for the Heisman Trophy in 2007. But while other schools *ahem, Missouri* put their resources behind their candidate, KU stood pat. That's fine. Reesing was a sophomore then. Now, he's a senior, and he can barely get a look at the second team in his own conference.

It seems now would be a good time to give Sparky a spark. You know, pay it forward.

"We wouldn't get into some overextended campaign other than maybe writing a letter of endorsement to voters," Mangino said. "We're not going to put up billboards in Times Square. That's not what our program is all about. We've had a lot of people win postseason honors with no campaign, but if he was in a position, we certainly would do something to help him."

How can kU be expected to be so good with no OL or LB's. Reesing can create things when he's flushed out of the pocket, but what happens when 4 DL are after him, not just 1 or 2?

Todd would have to hatch an Oceans thirteen type scheme to get his hands on the Heisman. Hes ok but he is the last person that would be mentioned for that trophy.

We all know Tebow will win the heisman, no point in pretending otherwise. Not that Todd has a great chance even without Tebow.

KU used all their propaganda, and their campaigning that year to get into the BCS bowl they didn't deserve.

Does it still gnaw at you that we went to the Orange Bowl over you? We are just better liked nationally then Misery, the Orange Bowl comittee could have chose you all but didn't. Why, because you all suck, and the only fans of your program come form that lame state that you all hail from.

We went 12-1 that year, had a better record than you did. So we lost to you all, but were still the better team. Just like last year when you lost to us, but were the better team.

Maybe Reesing will choke like Daniels this year when he is supposed to have a great year. I doubt it though, Reesing is a winner. Somehow I recall his last game against your sorry team, a beautiful pass to Meiers for TD!!!

How awesome was that? But thanks for trying..
It really must suck always hating KU. Let it go, its never going to change. We wil always have a better school, a better campus, and just better people.

You're right - KU just needs to do a better job at promoting Reesing. Does anyone know where they could get a few thousand View Masters at a relatively cheap price?

That was the game that KU won... I think that kinda proves that they deserved to be there. Have fun this year Misery. Last year was supposed to be your season, too bad we smoked you at Arrowhead and ruined your supposed to be great season.

I would hardly call the results of that game "getting smoked."

It was obvious ku wanted the game more and needed the game more & they came out and won.

Also, you might want to wait a few months before running your mouth. Last year was supposed to be our season (you are correct), but if this isn't your year, the horizon isn't looking good. And with Jocques 2k transferring, Briscoe suspended, and Lueken getting run over (way to go) == it's not starting off too well.

And next year you lose Reesing, Sharp, Meier, all your LB's (again), and half your secondary. If Briscoe was smart he would leave early (but obviously he isn't = he's failing classes and fighting eligibility issues, embarassing (even for Mangino and his program has battled cheating and lack of institutional control before). Not looking good my man.

I have to actually post one last comment, I met a really nice lady this morning in Nebraska (of all places). She was a ku grad and really cool. But, at least she said her mom went to MU.

But our season was ruined before that unfortunately, last years game didn't mean anything in the scheme of things. The game that was mentioned in the article was the game at Arrowhead two years ago win Chase was a Heisman finalists and we went into the Big 12 Championship ranked # 1 in the country. Then for some unknown reason KU got a BCS bid, you remember the one that was ranked # 3 argument for getting rid of the BCS.
