The Blue and the Gray of New Mizzou Unis
For starters, here is a link to a photo gallery showing all parts of Missouri's new uniforms the Tigers will wear for the Border War against Kansas.
Some questions I had, and the answers:
Q-What happens to these unis after they are worn "for one time only" according to repeated promises from MU officials.
A-The players get to keep the jerseys, some gloves, etc. The helmets will be auctioned off at MUTigers.com, to the highest bidders.
Q-Why wear a uniform whose main splash of gold is on the soles of the shoes only?
A-Nike wanted that way and Nike furnished them and they are supposedly worth about $100,000 (to each of the 10 schools taking part in this).
Q-Since when did grey - the base color of the helmets with a black tiger stripe and block M - become one of the colors for the Tigers of black and gold?
A-Since Nike thought the stealth bomber look would be the way to go.
Q-Isn't it kind of funny, given the PC stance of the two schools trying to refer to this pre-Civil War Border War rivalry observation as a Border Showdown, that now we will have a vision of The Blue (of Kansas' helmets) and The Gray (MU's new helmets)?
A-Yeah, I think it is hilarious. Perhaps the coaching staffs could wear Union Army and Confederate Army caps during the game.
Q-What will be the public reaction?
A-Kansas fans will make fun of the new look. Missouri fans will love it if the Tigers win, and hate it if the Tigers lose.

I love it! I love it! I love it!
Wow! These Unis look incredible. I can't wait to see them in action. Go Tigers! Great job getting the MU brand exposed to more national attention in a great way! All the haters can do is hate! Nike and Mizzou now you know you in trouble! Go get'em Tigers! MIZ-ZOU!!! I think they are sweeter because the B-2B Stealth Bomber is staioned in Missouri! :D
I am a Tiger fan and am extremely unhappy that Alden has decided to yet again sell our collective soul for $100,000. I would not care if the price was 1 mil. These things are ugly as hell, where is the black and gold? Where are the true colors of the school? Thanks again Alden for showing the nation that you have a price and have 0 tradition.
This is so sad and if this joke had a brain he would know that if you have tradion and treat people fair, instead of rudely, when they are fans they may reach in their pocket and make up this donation....but this reveal a lot about our society and sports. Time to do something else with my time. Does ESPN own Nike? or visa versa?
This is an out rage.....after 50 years I am done. Alden you have no soul.... NIKE is a poster child of corporate greed and arrogance, just like you alden. pinkel where do you stand up for what's right. Thanks to you alden it is a disgrace to be an MU fan.
Go KU I am a new fan on Saturday!!!!
So, all of you alleged MU fans, complaining about the uniforms -- when was the last time you donated to the school? How much have you donated? If the answers are never and zero, do you really think you have a right to complain about decisions that bring money into the athletic departments accounts and allow Missouri to be competitive? I don't care if you like the uniforms or not, complaining that the school did something to bring in more money is ridiculous, competitive facilities are expensive.
Of course, I recognize that the chances are zero that a 50-year MU fan would change his allegiance simply because of a uniform choice. Jayhawk trolls should stay under their bridge, where Mangino will be sleeping once he's fired this week. Did you see the look on Lew Perkins' face after they threw the bomb, 1st & 10, less than 3 minutes left? Classic.
I'm a KU fan and love these new uniforms as well. I see where traditionalists are wondering how the school's colors were changed, but nevertheless, these are very high-tech looking uniforms. They probably would still look cool incorporating gold, maybe even more so.
Last time I checked, vendors wanting to sell you something built it they way you wanted, not they way they saw fit. I don't care if they are 'free'.
I guess we now know Mizzou's price for discarding their branding.......
These things are awful.
I'm a KU fan, but these uniforms are pretty sweet in my opinion. Those gold ones MU wore last year were ugly. I wish KU would go back to Nike.
Nike made requests of other schools and were told no - like making big changes to Texas' jersey or moving te U on Miami's helmets to the front. MU should have stood up to Nike a little more.
The gloves (as with all the teams doing this) are great though.
So...basically, MU threw their branding out the window for $100K. That speaks volumes about the [sarcasm]institution[/sarcasm]. Perhaps MU should offer advertising space on their official letterhead, or on the outside of campus structures as well.
Excellent timing on this, by the way, with MU being on the verge of competing for a conference title... oh wait...
So basically the answer to most of the questions regarding these uniforms is..."Because Nike said so!"
Write me a check for $100,000 and I'll wear a cheesy grey uniform for a day!
