OKLAHOMA STATE
Beat Texas Tech 24-17, Colorado at home on Thursday
Did you see that collision? Zac Robinson, zooming to the end zone late in the fourth quarter, took it from Tech’s Jamar Wall and both players lay motionless for minutes. The Daily Oklahoman reported that doctors told Mike Gundy that Robinson was OK, and Wall looked better as he left the field. Still, wow. Great victory for The Cowboys, who kept their Fiesta Bowl hopes alive. They’d probably have to win out, including a victory at Norman, to have a chance.
MISSOURI
Won 38-12 at Kansas State, Iowa State at home Saturday
Bill Snyder said on his pregame radio show that as talented as KU’s Dezmon Briscoe was that he hadn’t seen a wide receiver as good as Missouri’s Danario Alexander this season. Saturday proved Snyder correct. The Wildcats could do nothing with Alexander, who had 200 yards and three scores. The defense should take a bow. After torched by Baylor last week, Mizzou kept K-State out of the end zone and Daniel Thomas to under 100 yards. Where was that last week?
IOWA STATE
Beat Colorado 17-10, at Missouri on Saturday
Austen Arnaud knows of which he speaks. “We’re bowl-eligible, but we know that only means we’ve won six games,” he said. “That’s why we need to keep winning. Win seven games, and we clinch the bowl.” Correct. A 6-6 record is a minimum standard and not an invitation. Still, it didn’t stop the good feelings in the Cyclone Nation as fans stormed the field Saturday. A least six victories this season after last year’s 2-10? Paul Rhoads needs to be on the short list of Big 12 coach of the year candidates.
KANSAS STATE
Lost at Missouri 28-12, at Nebraska on Saturday
One thing true about the North this season is no two weekends are exactly alike. Or even remotely alike. So as poorly as K-State executed against Missouri, the Wildcats can turn it around in a hurry and win the division with a victory at Nebraska on Saturday. What the Wildcats can’t take to Lincoln is the mistake-prone team _ so uncharacteristic for this group _ that got it buried by Missouri. One reason to feel better about its chances: Nebraska doesn’t have a weapon like Danario Alexander.
NEBRASKA
Won 31-17 at Kansas, Kansas State at home on Saturday
The fans are feeling it. Beating Oklahoma last week, winning at Kansas, which had produced ugly losses in the Huskers last two trips, the next. Defense one week, offense the next. Nebraska is evolving into a complete team. Now, can the Huskers become a consistent one and win the North next week? If Roy Helu Jr., keeps motoring and the defense continues to come up big crown the Huskers division champs. Oh, and the quarterbacking shuffle is over. The job belongs to Zac Lee.
OKLAHOMA
Beat Texas A&M 65-10, at Texas Tech on Saturday
It hasn’t happened often this season, but on some days everything seems right. So it was for the Sooners against the Aggies. Oklahoma played this game at a different speed on both sides of the ball. The Sooners became bowl eligible and think Holiday or Alamo.
KANSAS
Lost at home to Nebraska 31-17, at Texas on Saturday
This was a good effort by the Jayhawks, who made one too many mistakes to halt the losing streak, now at five. A Kerry Meier fumble near the goal line, poor kickoff coverage, terribly timed penalties, these are the things that happen to a team going in the wrong direction and Kansas is headed there with a full head of steam.
TEXAS
Won 47-14 at Baylor, Kansas at home on Saturday
The legend of Colt McCoy will grow if he beats the Jayhawks this week. He’ll become college football’s all-time career victory leader and that won’t hurt his Heisman chances. He and Jordan Shipley were superb against Baylor and it’s down to three more victories for a berth in the BCS National Championship Game.
COLORADO
Lost at Iowa State 17-10, at Oklahoma State on Thursday
Four trips inside the 10 produced three points, and that more than anything is why the Buffs fell to 2-18 in road games under Dan Hawkins. Colorado is not going to a bowl game for the third time his four seasons, and Hawkins is in need of some asbestos shorts.
BAYLOR
Lost 47-14 to Texas, at Texas A&M on Saturday
It was 40-0 at halftime. And Baylor might contend that the Longhorns defense is the best it faced all season, including Oklahoma and Nebraska. The Bears can become bowl eligible by beating A&M and Texas Tech. But more likely a 1-7 Big 12 finish is in the cards.
TEXAS TECH
Lost 24-17 at Oklahoma State, Oklahoma at home on Saturday
Steven Sheffield played for the first time since breaking his foot in the Nebraska victory and wasn’t sharp in his 13 second-half snaps. His last attempt was picked and returned for a touchdown and the Red Raiders went back to Taylor Potts.
TEXAS A&M
Lost at Oklahoma 65-10, Baylor at home on Saturday
Nothing to see here folks, move along.
