Gettis Criticized for Sideline Exchange at MU

COLUMBIA - Missouri cornerback Carl Gettis - toasted for touchdowns in Saturday night’s 41-7 loss to Texas - didn’t fulfill media requests to take part in interviews Monday afternoon at MU’s weekly interview session.
As one reporter noted, perhaps Gettis didn’t see the need, having done all his talking on the sideline.
If you didn’t hear about it, here is what ABC cameras showed in Saturday night’s telecast:
Gettis in an apparently heated discourse with MU defensive coordinator Dave Steckel.
MU Head Coach Gary Pinkel didn’t dodge the incident, although he didn’t mention Gettis by name in noting a need for better “emotional stability.”
“If you lose control on the sidelines . . . ,” Pinkel said. “If you lose control, you’re of no value to our football team.”
Team captain Sean Weatherspoon spoke bluntly.
“I didn’t have to see it on ABC,” Weatherspoon said. “I was right there.
“That’s something that we don’t like to get into. We’ve had that the last few games.
“If you get beat for a touchdown, you should be able to come to the sideline and discuss it. You shouldn’t be where you shut it down for the whole team.
“Something we’ve got to be better at is emotional stability.”
Despite the outburst, Gettis retained his starting position at cornerback on Monday’s depth chart.
“There’s a lot of emotion on that sideline,” Pinkel said. “We handle that internally.”
