No Rest for Gabbert at MU

Although that likely was not his intention, Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel has shot down the hottest Internet speculation, that sore-ankled quarterback Blaine Gabbert should sit out what looks like a likely loss to Texas.
“He wants to play,” Pinkel said. “He should play. He’s better right now, this week, without question.
“He’s battled through it. Chase Daniel never had to do this. Brad Smith never had to do this. It says an awful lot about him.
“I have no regrets playing him and he would want nothing different.”
Gabbert suffered a sprained ankle early against Nebraska and was hobbled the rest of that game, a 27-12 loss to the Cornhuskers.
On Saturday, Gabbert threw for 313 yards in the first half at Oklahoma State, but was obviously still limited in his mobility by the ankle in a game Missouri eventually lost 33-17 after a scoreless second half.
“If we felt that a game off or giving him a break would take care of this,” Pinkel said, “the medical staff would let me know that. We’d do that. We’d have done that in a heartbeat.”
