Nebraska Returns Tickets as Mizzou Nears Sellout

By Mike DeArmond - Posted on 04 October 2009

COLUMBIA - Roughly 1,000 reserved seat tickets remain for the Nebraska at Missouri football game on Thursday, as of late Sunday afternoon.
And of that total, roughly 100, according to MU spokesman Chad Moller, were tickets returned by Nebraska governmental and athletic sources from the visiting team allotment.
“We’re anticipating a sellout,” Moller said.
And not just for that game. Moller said that Missouri anticipates being sold out of tickets to Oct. 24 Homecoming game against Texas, possibly by Monday morning.

Funny how huskers can sell out 300 straight games beating up on weaker opponents 7 or 8 home games a year, but can't find 100 people to want to go to mizzou. I don't believe that should be chalked up to the "economic times."

And if you believe the husker faithful is so innocent and guarded, my 12 year old daughter was heckled at school by some big, bad 'braskan boys today at school in omaha. Nonetheless, her mother and I tried to explain why you don't wear mizzou and its' colors game week if you don't want to be heckled in nebraska for cryin' out loud. (deep down, however, I admire her style)

NEBRASKA = JUST ONE LITTLE STEP UP FROM KANSAS.

I think it has more to do with the game being on a Thursday night. People would have to take off a couple days of work to travel. Returning 100 tickets for an away game in the middle of the week doesn't mean we aren't supportive fans of our team. We have fans that have bought every ticket at Memorial Stadium for every game since 1962 to watch the Huskers beat up on weaker opponents like Mizzou, who have lost 18 times in Lincoln in that span.

I'm sorry your daughter was teased in school but I'm pretty sure that 12 year-olds get teased at school every day for all sorts of reasons. The actions of pre-teenagers don't represent all people.

MISSOURI = JUST ONE LITTLE STEP UP FROM ARKANSAS

This is probably a sign of the current economic times. People getting laid off, money getting tight, etc. We still expect a good show of support for the Huskers.

Perhaps some of us are sick of the way the Missouri fans have treated the Huskers in the past. Name calling, pop cans and turkey wings being thrown in Huskers' direction are the least of the problems.

Remember the OU volleyball fans that were taunting the Husker players while they were trying to serve the ball? This was shown on TV several times. I'm surprised they didn't call the spectators for interference.

We Husker fans have always treated the Missouri players and fans with respect when the Tigers come to play at Nebraska. In fact we have a long standing tradition of applauding the visiting team, win or lose, after the game.

All I'm asking is the same measure of respect from the Missouri fans. May they be humble in accepting the Tigers' defeat this Thursday. Go Big Red!!

This is exactly the kind of pompous/ naive/ righteous/ defensive/ predictable/ pollyanna crap (we're the best fans ever) that makes me detest Nebraska. It's like they're conducting the longest group think study in the history of football. It's totally innocent, but it definitely gets on the nerves.

It may be because Nebraskans would have to take a couple of days of vacation from work to travel for a Thursday night game. It may also be because Husker fans would rather not have their tires slashed, stuff thrown at them and verbal assaults by the rude Missouri fans.
