MU Live Blog: It Is Over. Missouri 52-12
Update 12:28 fourth quarter:
After a holding penalty wiped out a Kendial Lawrence TD run, Missouri settles for Grant Ressel's 44-yard field goal. Ressel is now 6 for 6 on field goals for the season.
Update after Three Quarters:
The day apparently ends for the starters at the final series of the third quarter.
Derrick Washington caps a 12-play, 67--yard scoring drive with a one-yard TD run.
That makes it 49-6 Mizzou.
Blaine Gabbert gives way to Jimmy Costello at quarterback having completed 17 of 25 passes for 256 yards and three TD passes. Plus a 40-yard TD run.
Missouri has to this point, 420 yards total offense. All that when having the football only 15 minutes, 44 seconds in time of possession.
Update 6:44 3Q - MU 42-6
Furman and Tyler Maples finally scored on a 21-yard TD catch and run with 6:44 left in the third quarter.
It could have been Maples' second TD of the period. Only he lost the other when he was stripped of the ball at the MU one by Sean Weatherspoon, and MU's Jasper Simmons scooped up the fumble in the end zone and ran it out to the MU eight.
HALFTIME MIZZOU LEADS 42-0
Hey Jason Whitlock. It is safe to love again. Blaine Gabbert has thrown three touchdown passes and scored TD another on a 40-yard run as Missouri hangs a 42-0 lead on Furman at the half.
And, defensive end Jacquies Smith comes up with a pick six.
Gabbert, looking better than he did against Illinois and certainly better than he did until the final 16 minutes against Bowling Green, has hit 14 of 21 passes for 235 yards and 3 Tds in the first half. Plus the 40 yards rushing.
Jared Perry has caught 7 passes for 161 yards and 2 TDs.
Danario Alexander has become the first Tiger since Chase Coffman in the 2006 Sun Bowl to throw and catch a TD pass in the same game.
Oh, and Gabbert has become the first Missouri player to throw a TD pass of 40 or more yards and score on a run of more than 40 yards since a guy named Brad Smith.
Smith did it in 2002 against Kansas, throwing a 62-yard TD pass to Justin Gage and running 75 yards for a TD.
Here is the scoring so far:
Jared Perry 40 yard TD pass reception from wide receiver Danario Alexander. 4:47 1Q.
Jared Perry 48 yard TD pass reception from Blaine Gabbert. 2:42 1Q.
Blaine Gabbert 40 yard TD run. 12:05 2Q.
Danario Alexander 13 yard TD pass from Blaine Gabbert. 7:52 2Q.
Jacquies Smith 43 yard interception return for a TD. 3:55 2Q.
Danario Alexander 17 yard TD pass from Blaine Gabbert. 0:11 2Q.
RICKS AND MOORE OUT:
Starting strong safety Hardy Ricks won't be. Starting or playing, because of an ankle injury that limited him last week.
Also on the sidelines and not playing is reserve tailback De'Vion Moore. It will be the second straight game Moore has missed, also with an ankle injury.
