Alden fears football in KC out for 2012
In a wide-ranging question and answer session with PowerMizzou.com, Missouri athletic director Mike Alden cast doubt that Missouri would wind up playing a football game in Kansas City in the 2012 season.
MU and KU are still contractually bound to a game at Arrowhead Stadium, but KU officials have steadfastly maintained they do not want to play that game as a non-conference game with Missouri leaving the Big 12 Conference for the Southeastern Conference.
Here is the question and Alden's answer from that interview:
Q: Is playing anyone in Kansas City possible in 2012?
Alden: "I don't think so because you guys saw when our schedule came out, we've got to get three non-conference games. This is a lot of work. Folks see those openings on there and they probably think that's not a big deal. That's tough. We got a lot of work to get going on on January 3rd, but we've already been doing a lot. I don't see a game being played in Arrowhead in 2012. I do see that as a possibility down the line for us. I think it's a great venue. We enjoyed playing that game over in the Edward Jones Dome as well too. For us, we want to make sure we always have six games in Columbia, maybe seven and then we will take a look. But nothing for 2012."
A call to Alden on Saturday for further comment revealed that Alden is out of the office until Tuesday, when Alden will be in attendance at Missouri's Big 12 basketball opener at Mizzou Arena.

Don't blame the MU fans for the the SEC thing. We did not want to go to the SEC. I am just hoping that the support drop for MU will show the people driving this thing that they need to turn back to the Big 12.
KU claims that it won't play MU anymore. It's a pity that KU chooses to end the rivalry. Claiming that refusing to play the annual event due to Mizzou's departure from the Big XII is the basis of the refusal makes no sense. KU plays a non-conference schedule with other schools. Why not Mizzou? The only reason that makes real sense is KU's frustration at losing year after year. I suppose KU is tired of losing that game and it wants to schedule a cream puff opponent rather than face the humiliation of losing another game to MU in Kansas City.
Mizzou ended the series by packing their bags and fleeing for the SEC. You say that this conference isn't good enough for you anymore (yeah, whatever), yet you expect members of this conference to continue to be associated with you? It's like a guy leaving his wife for another woman but still expecting the ex to spend some "quality time" with him.
Your reason (fear) makes no sense, as the dirty birds are refusing to play you in basketball and other sports as well. They certainly aren't scared of you on the hardwood or anywhere else. It's all based on principle.
By the way, if Mizzou fans don't start sending more than 20-30K to Arrowhead for games, there won't be any promoters who want to schedule a game there.
Nice turnout in Shreveport, by the way. What, maybe 250 Tigger fans?
It's over. Yea, it's rough. Mizzou is going to the best athletic conference. Deal with it. It will get better for you. Yes, it hurts. You folks who get your self worth from your basketball team just got one heck of a reality check. Your hated rivals' basketball team is undefeated and the Mizzou football team just won its bowl game. Yea, your school isn't what you think it is and you got left behind. I don't blame you for being upset. That is a natural reaction. But come on you two. This is getting out of hand.
Get some help. Life will improve. It takes time, but it will get better. The fact is, some conference might take your school someday. Just be patient. You never know. Don't give up.
Go take a walk, get a puppy... do something. Heck NASCAR season is just around the corner then the Wizzards.
Cheer up. It will get better.
Happy New Year!
Oh. And news flash. We're IN a conference! A good one too!
We didn't get left behind. We chose not to even try to leave. And I find it funny to hear MU fans bragging about all their wins in BB right now. For years KU would have 30 wins and win the Big 12 and ALL the MU fans would point to the NCAA Tournament and laugh at foibles. They'd all exclaim that the regular season and winning the Big 12 weren't that big of a deal and only success in the tourney mattered. Now for the first time in decades MU is ranked higher in BB and all they can do is talk about how much better they are.
Just remember...you haven't won ANYTHING YET! When you do, brag til the cows come home. Until then, you might want to keep it in check.

You tell others to get a life huh. You who feel it necessary to come on here and straighten out the wayward souls who misguidedly comment on a story. I don't own a school you moron. I don't worship any college football program or campus in any town in America. You fool, you act like everyone is as stupid as you are.
Really. Did some college kid make fun of you? This is not healthy. You really need to take a break from your hatred of college athletes from other schools. "Life is too short to spend your life being pissed off all of the time", if I can quote a movie line.
You know, there are lots of medications that can help you. With modern technology, many imbalances can be corrected or at least improved. Check with your doctor.
It will get better, Roy. It really will.
That irritating little noise, like a squeaky floor joist, or a cockroach or some other irrelevant sound. Huh, don't have a clue what it is............nor do I care. Like all other bothersome chatter, it will go away on its own.
You seem to get everyone angry with you, LilRoy, lol. You are right about one thing, though, if it makes you feel better: None of the Big 12 schools will schedule NU, CU, A&M or MU in a regular season game in any sport.
But, you are one bitter old man, my friend. Happy New Year.
Direct quote from this fool:
"If you guys only knew who I was you would be shocked". What a gas bag and a Missouri fan to boot. Go figure.
Man you are weird. You have stalked me to three different stories tonight alone. You are just a little bit obsessed don't you think. I mean even for a freak like you that is weird.
The reason people don't like you, little man, is you don't talk about sports - you take it to a personal level calling everyone who disagrees with you an idiot.
Little man, people want to talk about sports. You are entitled to your opinion about sports, but when you talk about people personally, you lose all credibility.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: When you are right, people will agree with you, but when you're wrong, people are going to call you on it.
Take you meds and have a nice day.
Let it go ... SEC folks are ALREADY tired of your whining ...
Missouri not only turned its back on the Big 12 but on the sports market in Kansas City. When ask about it, the first answer was to state how they like to play in St. Louis too. Missouri allowed a temp to make a poor decision to make the St. Louis alumni happy. They told the Big 12 how they were a member wanting to make it a great conference, while talking to the SEC about what they could do to join. So now that it is becoming clear that regardless of how much KC has done for Missouri, they feel no obligation to the City or Big 12. Now it is time for them to spend their time in St. Louis and the SEC. Enjoy. By the way, it is a little transparent when you play a Basketball schedule like this. The SEC deserves better.
Clean house at Mizzou. That will make the alumni happy! Keep the Big 12 together and remain in the number 1 ranked conference!
SEC No!
Thats because its a rivalry game and KU seems to always give MU their best shot. Look at records against other teams for a better comparison. In the last 8 years or so the football programs for the 2 schools are obviously going in different directions. (Not counting miracle seasons)
A 100 year sample and you think it's some kind of fluke? Man you guys can sure rationalize. Directions come and go.
Directions may come and go but KU football has only been ranked in the AP polls 7 times in the past 75 years. Even in KU's best year ever, they weren't ranked as high as MU.
a CHICKEN!
So if the Beakers break the contract to play at Arrowhead will that be a couple more million dollars they'll have to pay out to bail their football program from yet another embarrassing moment? (Add it to the likes of Mangino and Gill.)
Coming from a school that has only beaten Kansas a hair over 50% of the time over the last hundred years that is pretty funny. Actually KU is losing one of the only schools they have been able to beat. In that way it is too bad. That is the only way however. Man you guys cry a lot don't you?
(by the way the penalty for breaking the Arrowhead contract is pretty small. Don't let facts get in the way of your fictional poor humor)
What is the penalty? I haven't seen any figures.
MU wanted shed of this league, they got that. I don't know what you want? No sense in pretending that nothing changed, and it is easier to be a martyr when you know there is no chance of the game being played. Alden knew that no team in the Big 12 is going to schedule them, A&M, Nebraska, or Colorado in the future. This is all a show to try to convince the KC area to stay with them. Won't work but hey being a martyr is what MU is really good at so it is a nice show.
Aww, did you delete my wonderful appraisal of your bitter blathering?
Let me sum it up:
You're a scorned cry baby and you would rather cut off your nose to spite your face by not keeping the rivalry. The rivalry started before they were in a league together genius. Why exactly are you whining again, trolling a MU article?
You're acting like an idiot is giving good KU fans a bad name. Grow up.
To bad KU can get over their egos and just enjoy the game for what it was a hell of a lot of fun regardless of who won.
Its just a game and i dont care either way!
Time to think about scheduling the Hogs at Arrowhead in 2013. It will be a full and rocking house.
Or even KSU...that would be more entertaining than KU.
