With Missouri headed to SEC, Kansas already moving on
Kansas chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little issued a statement Sunday about Missouri's move to the SEC.
"We're sorry to see a century-old conference rivalry end," Gray-Little said. "Missouri's decision may have implications for fans and for the Kansas City area, but it won't affect the long-term strength of the Big 12."
Comments last month by KU coach Bill Self and athletic director Sheahon Zenger shed doubt on the Jayhawks' willingness to compete against Missouri if it is not in the Big 12.
On Sunday, KU university relations' official Twitter account (@KUNews) tweeted "Missouri forfeits a century-old rivalry. We win."

if kansas plays missouri in kansas city in any sport they get nothing out of it why would they help missouri recruit and split the take. they sellout every basketball game they lose money to play missouri at sprint center. they lose a home non-conference cupcake which they need every win they can get so playing at arrowhead makes no sense. it was your choice to go to the sec now deal with it this is now the big 12 vs the sec. whether you like it or not you no longer matter to any big 12 team you are history now go away.
Illinois stopped playing FB vs Mizzou in St. Louis because they were tired of getting beaten every year. Is that the same reason KU will not play?
Mizzou wants what is best for them - I get that - and it is money. Do not for a minute think that the reason they still want to play KU, Texas, OU or anyone else, in KC is for anything else but more money. Arrowhead, Sprint Center - where ever - it is about the dollar.
Recruiting won't be that damaged - maybe some with parents who can't afford the time or the expense to travel, but MU will still get their headcount from the KC area.
I am disgusted with is happening in college sports. No one thinks about the kids - travel time, study time etc. I think it may be time to admit that these kids aren't students - they are employees for their colleges.
What happened is a disgrace - not MU's fault per se - just greed! To give up one of the top rivalries in college sports for greener pastures - makes me sad, but sadly too, I understand.
Me for one, I am glad that we are finally splitting from KU, and the big 12. To make a marriage analogy, KU is the arrogant, entitled, spoiled BI&%$ for a wife that thinks everyone owes her a favor. KU fans walk in the room, and all the oxyen instantly gets sucked out with all the bragging. All the fake, front running, band wagon JO. County wanna-bes, BUH BYE! All the big mouth arrogant KU fans left in the dust. Can't wait to head down south for some games, enjoy warmer weather, and southern hospitality. New adventures, stadiums, cities, can't wait!!
The KU idiot, race baiting cancellor showed her true colors by making threatening statements about the rivalry ending. OK, no problem bernadette quota lover.
BUH BYE!!!! Heading to the bank and greener pastures.
KU would also be the one in the relationship bringing home all the bacon. Bacon being actual accomplishments. You kind of sound a little bitter about being overshadowed by your spouse, I'm sure that isn't your situation in real life though sparky.
Nate, actually LOL'd on that one. Thank you.
We all knew it would happen someday.
Really bad day for KCMO. Chiefs get embarrassed by an 0-7 team, Sporting in KC loses and now without the Big 12 KCMO will lose millions in revenue. Boy, it is sad for the city to look forward to the KC Royals as the bright spot for the city's sports future. May as well shutter up the Sprint Center and turn off the lights in the Power and Light district now. Your state's flagship university (?) just turned your back on Kansas City!
Just like OU stopped playing Nebraska every year to form the Big 12 and OU will not play Nebraska now. OU was not going to play TX anymore if they left. Tx will not play TXam now. If you leave MU get lost, no one from the Big 12 will play you.
Lets see how many MU fans show up for the CBE basketball games in a few weeks in KC. SEC teams MU and Georgia play in it. Plenty of $10 tickets for sale. where are the MU fans to support KC?

Missouri fans your New Years calendars are now clear for the next 20 yrs. Oh wait, nothing changed
OU would play NU but the nubs are having a hard enough time trying to beat Northwestern.
If the Big 12 wants to act as you - a spoiled little 10 year old boy who didn't get his way - then you've done nothing but confirm that Missouri absolutely made the best decision possible in leaving the Big 12 behind.
Please try and present the case that if K-State had the chance to go to the SEC, that they should stay in the Big 12. That would be a hilarious show - and great for ratings! Let everyone know what day you're going to do it. Good luck with that.
---you don't get paid to write such dribble! In case you haven't noticed; MU hasn't won the BCS Championship nor the Final Four. But, we'll be playing the schools that will--playin' the best.
"Dribble" is what you do with a basketball. 'Drivel' is what KK was spewing above.
Hate to act like the grammar police and no offense intended but you don't want others thinking you got your degree from KSU.
The word dribble is a synonym of the word drivel. As you undoubtedly know, since you went to another school besides KSU, a synonym is one of two or more words or expressions of the same language that have the same or nearly the same meaning in some or all senses. Therefore, I believe the usage of the word dribble would be appropriate in this context. Then again I am not an English student so I would not know.
We are just not that into 2nd tier sports like BB. You really don't want MU fans to get lost cuz you can't afford the ratings dip. It is always about money and raising a little noise to get noticed is how you do your job. As far as bowl games we have played in and will continue to play in more bowls than either KU or KSU. BTW the lifetime records for those schools is .401 and .327. No one needs to fear them. You are what you are and your little run at KSU will come to and end and then KSU and KU can go back to your 2nd tier sports rivalry.
Basketball isn't a 2nd tier sport. It's just the revenue goes predominantly to the NCAA.
The NBA cancels several weeks of the season and no national uproar. No media near flame outs like last spring when the pundits thought we could miss some NFL time. BB is rapidly gravitating to soccer level enthusiasm and no BB conf exists in college sports and the one that is nearest to that definition has nearly imploded with the smallest tv revenue of all the larger conf. BB is 2nd tier get over it. MU has left you in the dust.
You are the dumbest Tiger I've ever had the misfortune of coming across, and that's really saying something. Get busy chasing your tail, you inbred hillbilly.
and you are my candidate for VI. You offer no argument other than this? Does anyone wonder why you and your fellow alums (assuming you actually were accepted at KU) are still paying for Mark M., Lew (screw the alums) P?? You come to a battle of the wits unarmed so you rely on a snarky comeback? BB is 2nd tier and that steals your thunder? Self, Zenger and Gray-Little will change their tune when they need money to pay off Till's salary next year.
Its not suprising hearing him make a MU hater comment, he is always disparaging MU, as a former Ok state b ball player (when they were actually good) there is no love lost with him
Stop your whining your schools would be gone if anybody wanted you.
Nobody wants MU as a school, or it's athletic programs, it is all about the television markets and the number of TV sets any conference can sell to the networks. MU stop fooling your self as being so important to the SEC!
Astonishing that a chancellor from a very respectable flagship university is quoted sounding like an ignorant sports talk radio caller. Espn called her comments either bitter or oblivious. I can't imagine UT saying something like this after aTm left. Very unprofessional.
--but it does make she and KU sound Little. Exceedingly shortsighted and embarrassing for KU.
KU's spin machine is an epic fail. The rest of the nation will see KU as the one who will look childish, jealous and petty.
Gray-Little said. "Missouri's decision may have implications for fans and for the Kansas City area, but it won't affect the long-term strength of the Big 12."
No affect at all, long-term, because after UT and OU leave with their lessor halfs, TT and OSU, there won't be a real Big 12, just former Mountain West and Conference USA members along with the Kansas sisters and the lessor half of the Iowas. 0ops, and Baylor, too. But the short term is a real pain for the Big 12 in trying to secure West Virginia for the departed Mizzou. However, KU can lesson the affect by continuing to schedule Mizzou at Arrowhead each and every year. Unless, of course, an SEC school is a little too much football for KU.
Anyone from MU popping off about football is laughable.
It is sad that MU has decided to ditch 110 years of tradition for some extra money each year.
With it's natural rivalries gone and MU getting drilled by the SEC schools, I think this decision will be seen as a very large mistake in a few years.
Bottom line: MU didn't win crap in the Big 12 and they won't win crap in the SEC.
Nothing in the world is stopping KU from maintaining the rivalry. Except petty jealousy.
And a lack of interest in associating with MUers and a lack of interest in assisting them with maintaining a presence in KC.
Mizzou's departure is terribly disappointing. But for KU and its fans to take a sour grapes attitude seems childish. Especially so since they've got a final game to play. Sounds like the Hawks are setting themselves up for a lip pounding. Better be careful Hawks, considering just how bad a showing you're making in 2011 I wouldn't be so willing to be putting up much bulletin board material.
right now ku hates turner gill more than missouri i wouldn't plan on seeing to many ku fans. very interesting you used the term lip pounding missouri will come to kc with 4 wins no chance for a bowl fitting way to end the series they can call it does anybody really care bowl.
We'll see, but I think you're wrong about the crowd for this game. I think it will be the biggest yet at Arrowhead because of the circumstances. But you're very right about it being the loser bowl....which is another reason that the fans will come: To smack down the biggest loser of all...the loser of this game.
Seems like part of her name is missing. Gray-Little what exactly?
Gray-Little-Mewling-Puking-Infant.
Mizzou officials have gone out of their way to show interest in the historic rivalry with Kansas regardless of conference affiliation. Kansas should cherish the rivalry and seek to continue the rivalry regardless of conference affiliation of either institution. Other major universities around the country have long-time rivals from different conferences. For an example, look at Flordia and Flordia State. Over the years, Mizzou has built and continued a rivalry with Illinois even though the two schools are not in the same conference. There is no reason that the Kansas-Missouri rivalry should not at least equal the Missouri - Illinois rivalry. Mizzou officials have expressed an interest in playing a game in Kansas City against a traditional, regional rival. While KU would certainly qualify to play such a game, KU is not the only school that fits the description. Mizzou should seek out Nebraska, K-State or Iowa State to play an annual game in Kansas City. Arguably, Kansas City would be more well served with an annual Mizzou - Nebraska game at Arrowhead than a MU-KU game. An annual Mizzou-Nebraska (SEC vs. Big 10) showdown at Arrowhead will render KU football even more irrelevant in the region than it is already. Go ahead Mizzou, give KU what they want and don't bother to call them about a game. Instead schedule a game against another traditional, regional rival in KU's backyard.
Agree 100% There is absolutely no reason to not continue the rivalry. KU leaders are the ones ending it. I guess it really didn't mean anything to them after all.
missouri and illinois stopped playing 2 years ago for the same reason kansas will never play missouri in kansas city. your dreaming if you think any big 12 team is going to play you in kansas city. your in the same dream world if you think nebraska is going to waste a non-conference home game to play you in kansas city. nebraska sells out every game you can't pay them enough to come to kansas city.
MU and ILL play BB Dec 22nd. Maybe you should update yourself before you misstate something, again.
Whose your daddy, Farrah???
But BB isn't a real sport? You are such a typical little Tiger. Take whatever St Louis gives you, you sad little man. Whatever they tell you must be right. Get your marching orders and rationalize the best you can.
I never said it wasn't a real sport - it's just 2nd tier. Maybe you can challenge JCCC in FB. Oh wait, they don't have a team but it's ok KU doesn't either! You suck the toes of the UT gods because your admin and coaches don't have the balls to stand up to them. But then, I don't care now. I will be watching your little BB school in the West division of the Big East soon enough - about as much fun as watching Jayhawkers trying to get a college degree with coloring books.
Thomas - whose your daddy? UT or OU?? Like Farrah you don't know who to call daddy, do you??
Let's get on with improving this football team; in two short years Gill has turned this program into a laughingstock. Who cares what MU is doing?? I know I don't......
Get over it. You too Ms. Gray-Little. Show some class. As a graduate of KU I resent this taking the low road. Of course I think it sucks that Mizzou was able to move on. Ask the question why they (and Nebraska, A&M and Colorado) did. We know the reasons. We have basketball which all fans are proud of but unfortunately football is king in the present game. I hope the Big 12 goes to 12 teams and can stay there for stability reasons. If it makes sense for KU to schedule games with Mizzou (money, recruiting, etc.) then don't rule it out just because of pettiness. Keep that door open. If you can't compete against Mizzou in football them maybe you don't do it but that would be an outright shame. If the KU leadership can't figure this all out then they can leave along with our nice guy coach.
Great comment, agree with you totally. A rationale KU fan that I could actually carry on a conversation with.
I thought dumb comments were supposed to be saved for the fans. Nice official (sour grapes) comment from the University of Kansas.
for the official statement they made. Specifically the tweet.
Thats okay, we (Missouri) will still go to McDonald and order food, your job is safe. Texas and their henchmen are at fault, If you would have been man enough to stand up to them 2 yrs ago, this would never have happened.
Judging by seeing the typical Missouri person, I have no doubt you guys eat McDonalds. A lot of McDonalds...
this has taken so long nobody cares you can keep using texas as an excuse all you want. if you hate ku so much than you should be glad you don't have to play us its over. the reason missouri fans are so mad at kansas you need to play us in kansas city more than we do and you know it. by the way kansas has a third tier network just like texas so whatever problem you have with texas thats your problem kansas and the big 12 will be just fine without you.
area, I have no problem with not ever playing ku in any sport again. Oh, and nice try to make it sound as if ku is right there with Texas. Delusional.
Here are the 2009-10 3rd tier television revenues for the Big 12:
