Concerning Gabbert, Restraint Be, uh, Darned

It was one game. One magnificent game. But one game.
And even Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel couldn't restrain himself when talking about the debut of his new star quarterback, Blaine Gabbert.

"He's as talented a quarterback as I've ever seen," Pinkel said. "But you know what? Talent doesn't make you a great quarterback. It allows you to do some things.

"But what makes you a great quarterback is this (Pinkel pounded his chest). Your heart, your competitiveness, your toughness.

"There are a lot of guys who can throw it 60 or 70 yards but they can't win. You don't win being a great skill guy. You win because of what's in you. I don't care if he can throw it from here to Columbia. Doesn't matter to me.
"(The thing)I saw out there was competitiveness. I saw poise. That's what you have to have to be a great quarterback, a great player."

Whew!

The 'tweener' pass Gabbert threw to Kemp was an absolute laser. I don't remember a kid his age being able to throw that pass with that much velocity, that accurately. Right then, I knew he was going to be fine this year. I haven't gone back to watch the replays, but it seemed he may have dropped his throwing arm when he drew back the pass. If that continues, good DE's will get him to fumble fairly easily. All in all, he looked magical on Saturday.

After seeing Nevada go scoreless against ND, I think we should come out of Reno with a 'W'. Kaepernick (sp?) will be much better in 3 weeks and so will the rest of the Nevada team. It's a Friday night, nationally televised game in Reno, therefore it's nothing to take for granted whatsoever. I know we should be able to throw all game against them and I just don't think they have the atheletes to beat Mizzou!!!

I agree, Mizzou will be undefeated going to Stillwater if they can keep Helu Jr. under control.

Mark it, Mike!
