Regardless of decision, KSU QBs will keep competing

While we wait until Tuesday for Bill Snyder to fill us in on who he picked as his starting quarterback at his weekly news conference, it's worth pointing out that Carson Coffman and Grant Gregory will continue to compete regardless of who starts against Massachusetts.

Just because Kansas State's coach has picked a starter for Saturday’s game against UMass doesn’t mean he’s picked his starter for the entire season.

“Whoever the No. 2 quarterback is going into this game,” Snyder said, “I want him to always understand that if he continues to improve then he always has the opportunity to challenge for the No. 1 spot. Whoever it is who goes on the field Saturday will certainly have to perform well enough to retain the position.”

Coffman is a 6-foot-3 junior who saw some action with the Wildcats last season. He is also one of four captains on this year’s team. Gregory is a 6-foot-1 senior who transferred to Kansas State from South Florida.

From what I have seen, heard behind the scenes and from what my gut feeling tells me I think Coffman will get the nod.

And for what it’s worth, UMass coach Kevin Morris said during his weekly teleconference that he expects Coffman to start at quarterback.
