That's like giving the Heisman to the best defensive player in the nation. NOT GONNA HAPPEN AGAIN.
Maybe you say "wow" because you don't watch their games. Stat sheets don't always show the impact of a player. He's got a huge impact on the game in the style of play MU employs. He's a lock down defender, and possibly the best on-the-ball defender in the nation. His numbers won't "wow" you, and I wouldn't expect him to get much respect without the pouring in 25 a game along with the incredible defense he provides.
I think he's great. I don't disagree with your points. I also am realistic enough to know that players like Tiller don't have any chance of All-American honors, let alone player of the year honors, except in the very rare case where they're on a top 5 team (and even then he would have to up his scoring output immensely). Mizzou will perhaps if things go well be in the top 5 of the Big XII. I say 'wow' partly because of that and partly b/c of who is left off. If James Anderson isn't on the list then I think the vast majority of college basketball fans would be surprised to see Tiller.
I believe the players are nominated by other coaches and/or teams can promote their own players. Much like the Heisman Campaigns.
