K-State hoops lands ESPN "College GameDay" appearance

By Blair Kerkhoff - Posted on 18 August 2009

ESPN's "College GameDay" will broadcast from Bramlage Coliseum for the first time this January before the Sunflower Showdown gets underway in basketball.

The pregame shows are set for 10-11 a.m. and again at 5 p.m. on Jan. 30 before Kansas State tips off against Kansas at 6 in Manhattan.

K-State has been featured on the football version of "GameDay" twice, and the basketball pregame show has also been in Lawrence before the KU-K-State game in 2008.

After January 30th who will be the only Big 12 North School to host College GameDay for basketball and football?

Answer: Kansas State

This assumes that KU doesn't host the football version this fall.

KU hosted gameday in 2007 vs Mizzou. It was at Arrowhead but it was a 'home' game. KU has also hosted the basketball version.

Last time I checked, Arrowhead was not in Lawrence. I thought of that as well but neutral sites don't count.

I didn't see anywhere in your original post anything about Manhattan or Lawrence. You said what 'school' has hosted. KU hosted them at Arrowhead. Maybe you don't know what technically means. My point is really that you should stop holding K-State out there as something extraordinarily special, because they are not. Not at all.

Very special indeed.....

After January 30th who will be the only Big 12 North School to host College GameDay for basketball and football at their campus?

Answer: Kansas State

This assumes that KU doesn't host the football version this fall. The more I think about it this caveat is likely not necessary.

KU still remains the only NCAA Div 1 school in recent memory to not have the ability to defend their championship in basketball.

I remember when KU beat K-State on their way to the '88 NCAA Championship. I believe that was the last time KSU made it as far as the Elite Eight.
I think the key words in your comment are "defend their championship" - this is something KSU hasn't had to do since the 1981 Big 8 Tournament.
Also, can't forget about that 177-90 series lead for KU. So, if you want to claim superiority in Gameday appearances, go ahead.

or rather KU hoops lands GameDay at Manhattan

Is there any question that KSU needs to send a thank you note to Lew Perkins and Bill Self for getting them this exposure?

KU sends Snyder a thank you for grooming Mangino.
